[party post] come sail away with me

You've come through a door, and you are on a boat. Specifically, you're on a cruise ship in the middle of some giant body of water. You've come through the door behind you which is attached to nothing and may now be locked. It's relatively empty as giant as it appears to be. The only other passengers that are here appear to also have come through the door for the most part and it is not nearly enough to fill up this entire cruise ship.

Also, who knows who the hell is driving this thing since all of the employees appear to be either ghosts or holograms...

Is this your first time here or your hundredth time here? Do you want a drink or a dip in the pool? Is it day or night? Do you stumble on your room or some other situation either fun or painful within its many rooms, shops, and facilities? Do you run into someone you know or a complete stranger?

The possibilities are unlimited!

Which Liz would appreciate the ability to relate, given the considerable lack of Antarian hybrids on this boat.

"The Crashdown. I'm not sure where my dad got the name from, but we had this one artist who works with plastic molds create this side of a flying saucer that sticks out of the front of the building. That alone brings in the tourists. Roswell has a larger tourist population on some days than we do actual residents."

Tyler looked to be about her age, if not a little older. Liz had led a life where she'd had a goal in mind from the start, knew exactly what she wanted to do with her life and how to get there. While she understood that most teenagers were ill-equipped to decide what they wanted to do with the rest of their lives at such a relatively young age, they at least had some inkling of what they wanted to do. Not having even that? Was really odd to her.

Especially with the considerable lack of not being an alien hybrid...

"I'm sorry."

Sorry, because what else does one say to news that (to her) sounds so sad?

"Oh, you know. The usual. Unemployment, family drama. Unrequited love." And occasionally those things manifest into town wrecking, people killing phenomena. But really, they're mostly rooted in emotional problems which makes them relatively easy to explain. "They just ... take it harder than most."

The fact he is hugging her back tells her more than he thinks it does, whether he gives her straight answers or not.

Worry starts to gnat at the pit of her stomach, though she doesn't pull away immediately. Whether it's wrong or not, Elena has missed him too, has missed what they had despite every possible reason she has to not do so. They both changed in Chicago, their friendship changed, and she isn't sorry for it. She isn't sorry for anything they shared in that city, but - she also knows his own question is going to come with answers that he isn't going to like. Answers that she will own and she claims for her own, but will change the tone of their reunion regardless.

It's why she holds him that much tighter, closing her eyes against the skin of his neck; she lets out a soft breath, before she pulls back. "I was... " her voice trails off. God, there is so much that happened in the span of a year. How is she going to explain it all? "I was in New York. I ended up alone there at first, but - "

Elena licks her lips. "Ethan fell through after I did."

"Good for you. Not enough people even know what they want in life, let alone have the determination to go get it."

The floor rolls slightly with the motion of the ship and she has to clutch his arm again. "...too bad that talent's wasted playing nursemaid. Sorry. I'll make this up to you."

The most Tyler had ever had for plans were his father's plans. Going to a good school, playing football, things like that. But his father is dead, and so his mother and he spent most of his senior year of high school was mostly spent on the run.

So all in all it makes sense he doesn't have plans.

When would he have had time to make them.

"It's fine. I have time to figure it out."

He is going to live forever, after all.

"So it worked in a way you didn't expect it to work, but not wrong. Either way, science experiment is still pretty cliche and apt material for a movie."

Not that Damon thinks that Nikola seems like the Stan Lee-superhero type, but he can still see Hollywood taking a story like that and running with it. It's a lot more interesting than the reason that he became the way that he is (pathetically falling hopelessly, madly in love with someone who didn't feel the same but told him that she did

promised him they'd be together forever. God, he was an idiot).

"...compassion can be a pain in the ass that way or at least the people who have it endlessly." Damon doesn't have any though he never would be able to do what needs to be done in terms of Stefan, no matter how far down the line he was. That's because he loves his brother and doesn't care about the people he kills as the ripper. "So why didn't you just do what needed to be done anyway despite the compassionate ones?"

Damon swallows as he hugs her tightly (and every moment is fleeting, who knows why they're here or how long they'll get to stay?). He feels her close her eyes against his neck, that soft breath there (the warm air of it and the way her fingers grip hold of him at the back). There's an aching that takes over his chest whole with it, tries to claw out of his rib cage, but he somehow contains it. He looks down briefly when she pulls back, just hit hard with the emotion of it before he looks back up at her slowly.

It's not what he expects (and somehow it makes him suddenly angry before he even knows all the details, because why should--

It was supposed to be him there with her). He can't even process the fact that Jeremy and Sarah were in that car too, and how the hell did all four of them get separated?

"Wolfboy?" The name happens automatically. It's the way he thinks of him, and it's the way he's always going to refer to him. He's angry-- Damon should be happy that she wasn't alone (and a part of him deep, deep down is), but he's angry because it was supposed to be him there. Ethan was going back to his family. Damon was going with her. Choices were made-- "Jeremy and Sarah weren't there either?"

"...they sound like pains in the ass too."

Logan has never been a fan of people who know more than they should know, who know everything and then hold that information over your head. Granted, maybe they were more open about what they knew, but from his experience, people like that tend to hold their knowledge locked up in their fists.

It's annoying.

"That... sounds really cool, the name of the place, I mean. I like it," Peter says with a tiny smile, and he'd probably visit it even if he wasn't a tourist. It just sounds neat. Then he laughs a bit, shaking his head at the thought of a place that could have more tourists than residents though he comes from two places that do have a lot of tourists just not more than people living there. "I wouldn't... know what that's like. I grew up in New York City, and then I... ended up in Chicago through this Rift. It's a break in time and space. Happens a lot there."

"As long as they get someone who didn't duet with Freddie Mercury to play me. Honestly, David Bowie looks nothing like me, but when you put a film in the hands of Christopher Nolan, you get two of three things: Batman, that kid from 3rd Rock From the Sun, or big names in awkward roles. Sometimes you have Shinzon playing Bane, other times a rock star playing me."

He shrugs, muttering something under his breath about how rock and roll isn't real music — because it isn't. He knew some of those great composers of that transitional period in the early 20th Century. JJ used to bring in symphonies to the Waldorf-Astoria for them to conduct while his guests danced the night away. Nikola's almost nostalgic for those times.

Almost.

"Because the one with the compassion is the one person who stands a chance of living as long as I will, and I'm not about to spend eternity listening to them rag on me at every opportunity for kicking Jackie's proverbial bucket."

Helen would never forgive him, and that would grow to be intolerable after a few centuries, if not decades.

Damon smirks at that. He is fairly well versed in movies and pop culture (at times), but he hasn't actually heard about that particular one. Now he's thinking he's going to have to look it up though. "...did David Bowie as you sing a song? Because that would just be the icing on the cake."

He is going to be amused by it no matter what especially with the way Nikola is both shrugging and muttering about rock and roll music under his breath. Damon's thinking he should probably not mention Taylor Swift songs either, but he might one day. Or maybe he'll just blast it over the loud speaker like the asshole that he is.

There's a soft, knowing smirk at what he says, and Damon swallows.

"So you don't want to lose the only person that might be able to keep you company all that time."

Loneliness is a dangerous thing and a powerful motivator. He should know. Not that it ever stops Damon from doing stupid, terrible things.

Nikola's a rare surviving member of The Five in that he is actually well acquainted with the times. He blends in easily with the people and the era, and not just because he's learned how to guise that thick Slavic accent that would otherwise coloring his voice. John and Helen, on the other hand, are oftentimes still far too Victorian to function in this modern century. James had been the same way before he'd been lost in the depths of Bhalasaam. Yet Nikola, in spite of his grumpy disposition and antisocial tendencies, got along just fine with the 21st Century.

(He did help usher it in, recorded history's accounts be damned.)

"Something like that." Because his relationship with Helen was as complicated as it was simple, stagnant, and impossible.

"I spent a summer in Florida with my aunt. Otherwise, I don't really leave Roswell much." Marathon, Texas doesn't count. As far as anyone's concerned, they were never there. "I do hope to be living on the East Coast, eventually. One day."

Someone still harbors aspirations of residing in Massachusetts by way of a Harvard admittance. Liz doesn't want to spend the rest of her life on the run with aliens. She entertained that notion once, but she knows now that she isn't part of Max's their future.

Damon lifts his eyebrows up curiously at the Something like that. There's a tiny smirk on his face, because well, the only relationships that he has in his life are all complicated, impossible. It was impossible that Elena should care about him, and yet she did-- she does.

He's used to thinking of her in the painful past tense way that tore open his chest.

"Something like that," he says quietly, lifting up his glass as if in response, as if in toast to relationships that are something like that.
normalguy: (concerned with glasses)

"Where on the East Coast?" Peter asks, looking over at her as he lifts up a hand to adjust his glasses a bit. His leg is perched beside him as he leans against the chair a bit.

She'll get there one day. The East Coast is a great place to go in general, but he might be biased. As much as he hates New York City sometimes, he also loves it. It's home. There's not another city like it though Chicago is becoming its own home.

"Cambridge, Massachusetts?" Liz tucks a stray strand of hair behind one ear and shyly, yet proudly, admits, "I sort of have big Harvard dreams. It's sort of been my life's dream to study and eventually teach molecular biology there."
normalguy: (but i keep trying)

[personal profile] normalguy 2014-05-05 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
Peter smiles at her at what she says, and they've just met, but he doesn't really have any doubts that she can get there. "That is a seriously awesome life dream," he says, adjusting his glasses a bit but he means that very genuinely. "And molecular biology is so cool. I mean, examining the cells themselves like the building blocks right there, and the interactions between DNA and protein biosynthesis and all of everything that it has to do with. It's a great path to pursue, and I mean all the things you can do with that knowledge and teaching others it so they can make advancements in the field is--"

Peter clears his throat a bit, realizing after a second that he's rambling, his science ramble thing.

He's a science geek too though, and while he is more into the technological side, he helped finish that formula that... created a giant man-lizard, but still. The point is he loves science as much as he hastily said it to Gwen to explain why he'd been sneaking into Oscorp, he really, really does.

"His name is Ethan, Damon."

This is starting to sound familiar to her, in all the ways she is hoping to prevent. It's why she knows she needed to tell him instead of letting it go unannounced. The ship is only so big, and he and Ethan would've crossed paths eventually. Elena rather he hear it from her than from anyone else.

The next question gives her pause. It's a complicated answer, that comes with a history of its own, and considering the way Damon is already handling the first revelation, Elena isn't keen on expanding on it all at once.

"Not at first," she says quietly. "I didn't see Jeremy until after he fell through, too. He was with Sarah, and he'd been in another world. One without technology; there was only magic."

He's rambling, but Liz is just — enchanted. Not in the boyfriend stealing kind of way, but where has this fellow science-inclined mind been all her life? She was always that lone person in science labs and classes who was a little more into the subject material than the rest of the class, who had a tendency to reference experiments and biologists who even the teachers were sometimes unfamiliar with. To hear someone talk as passionately about something she just loves is — it's nice.

It's human. And in this moment, Liz feels more human than she has since before she was shot.

(Maybe being on this boat isn't so bad.)

"It's amazing. And important. Incredibly important. More important than people realize. I kind of want to make them realize. You know?"

Peter smiles sideways at her at what she says before he nods in agreement, because he sees the importance of it. He loves science, understands it even if it isn't anything that he can do for a job full time because of his other gig as Spider-man. It's why he works as a photographer despite being as passionate about science as he is. Being Spider-man doesn't really give him room to have a fulltime job so it's really, really cool for him too to be able to talk about it again.

"Yeah, making people realize how important it is is really important too, and if you're passionate about it and passionate about teaching people, educating them on it? You're half way there," he says as his smile widens. She is half way to being able to get people to realize how important and amazing it is.
