Lucien was the wild card.

Elena knew, the moment Ethan's oldest brother came into town, that nothing good was going to come of it. The rest of the Hales were not warm in their reception of him, and immediately she had sensed there was history. She just couldn't have anticipated what that history meant and what it would lead to. Who Ethan's father really was, and the impact that would have on him. The distance was difficult, but Elena never held it against him. She understood, and it wasn't about her. It was about Ethan, and learning something truly horrifying and life-altering, and his struggles with it were very real and very understandable.

She bites her lip at the sound of that regret in his voice. She lets out a breath and twirls the glass idly in her hands, before she looks up somewhat abruptly, a smile forming on her face. "That's -- that's exactly what he said to me, too," she breathes out. The ball was his lightbulb moment. She watches him fondly with a smile as he laughs and shakes his head, and then straightens at his question.

Well then.

Elena purses her lips, looks down at the glass, takes another shot, makes another face, and then just sort of blurts out:

"And then we slept together," she says. There's a beat, before she adds, "A lot."
