[party post] come sail away with me

You've come through a door, and you are on a boat. Specifically, you're on a cruise ship in the middle of some giant body of water. You've come through the door behind you which is attached to nothing and may now be locked. It's relatively empty as giant as it appears to be. The only other passengers that are here appear to also have come through the door for the most part and it is not nearly enough to fill up this entire cruise ship.

Also, who knows who the hell is driving this thing since all of the employees appear to be either ghosts or holograms...

Is this your first time here or your hundredth time here? Do you want a drink or a dip in the pool? Is it day or night? Do you stumble on your room or some other situation either fun or painful within its many rooms, shops, and facilities? Do you run into someone you know or a complete stranger?

The possibilities are unlimited!

Tyler has been on the ship for a while now. A couple of weeks. Sure, he could complain but a) it's not Mystic Falls and b) his mother was alive here.

All things considered, it could be worse.

Still, he gets that it can be jarring and he's trying to be a better person again and helping people where he can. So when his sharp senses pick up on someone freaking out he decides to follow it. This place likes to throw surprises at you, after all.

"Yeah, it's happening. Which sucks, but doesn't make it less real."

Okay, so as far as greetings go it isn't the best but no one said he was good at this or anything.

It could be worse. A lot worse. Liz could be locked in a white room with agents from the FBI's Special Unit, men and women in lab coats hoping to coax information about Max, Nasedo, and the others by whatever means necessary. The mere thought of that very real possibility makes her stomach churn more than the barely detectable motions of the boat do.

Still seated, Liz looks up at him. "Isn't there some sort of 'no place like home' clause? Can't I just click my heels and go back to where I came from?"

"Somehow, I don't think it's that easy. I mean, it can't be, right?"

Because in Tyler's experience things are never, ever that easy. They're always more difficult than they need to be, than you could ever possibly expect. So just because you want to leave the boat -- well that doesn't mean you're going to.

Not by a longshot.

"No, of course it isn't."

But that doesn't stop her from wishing it could be, for indulging in that wishful side of herself that knows for a fact that sometimes the impossible happens. Sometimes, you get what you want whether it's a quick trip home or not dying because someone's gun went off in your family's diner.

"You don't seem too bothered by that."

"Home's not that great."

Understatement of the year, honestly, but Tyler isn't about to go into details with someone he doesn't know. He's not that open of a person, probably never would be.

"Oh."

Sounds like something Michael would say. Liz knew that was one of the driving forces behind Michael's desire to get the hell off the planet and go back to Antar. Home wasn't great and she'd had the (mis)fortune of seeing that with her very own eyes. His foster father hadn't really been a stellar example of humanity.

"I'm Liz. Can I ask where home's supposed to be?"

"Tyler. And it's Mystic Falls, Virgina."

He's not really expecting her to have heard of it -- it's a pretty small town, honestly. Easy to miss if you weren't looking for it. It'd be unremarkable if it wasn't for all the supernatural creatures it seems to lure in.

"I've never been that far east, unless Florida counts. I don't think it does." It was more south than east in spite of sharing part of the east coast. "I'm from Roswell, New Mexico."

"It doesn't really -- I've never been that far west though." Most of his traveling has been limited to the Appalachian Mountains.

"Not a lot of people do, unless they're tourists in town for a sci-fi convention or to camp out by the old highway to try and spot UFOs."

She says it like it's a joke, a roll of her eyes accompanying it. UFOs, those aren't real. ...except they are. Very real. She's been inside the ship that crashed in 1947, knows the people who were on it.

That's information she'll never offer up, though. Ever.

"Right. People really only stop into Mystic Falls if they're really interested in Civil War era history and old plantations." His house being one of them, technically.

Or if they're there because of the high supernatural population but he doesn't offer that up.

"New Mexico was mostly fought over by Union and Confederate claimants to the territory during the Civil War. We weren't a state before 1912."

In her state, people think of statehood and admission to the Union before they think of the Titanic when 1912 is mentioned.

"Sorry, I'm kind of a nerd. I know more than I should."

A lot more. So much more.

"It's fine. I only know what I do about that stuff because of how drilled in it was."

And even then, Tyler never really cared about it so he kind of retained the bare minimum. He's never really been the studious type.

"Not a fan of history, I take it?"

Liz wouldn't say she was a fan or that she wasn't. She was somewhere in the middle of finding it interesting, but not so much as to actively look things up without having a good reason to. That was more Alex's department. Her passion was science.

"Not particularly."

He's not much of a school/studies person in general honestly. Once, in middle school his mother had to write a whole paper for him so he wouldn't flunk. It's a thing. He's not dumb it's just not something he really cares about.

"History's interesting, but science is more my thing. It's sort of what I want to go into, eventually. You know, down the line, after high school. Once I find a way off of this boat."

And they would find a way, right?

"At least you know what you want to do."

Part of the reason why college hadn't applied to go to college with his friends is because he has no idea what he wants to do with his life.

"You don't?"

She seems genuinely concerned, worried about those who don't have clear direction in their lives. Even Isobel knew where she wanted to be, even if achieving that was less than ideal in her situation.

"Yeah, not really."

Most of the time he's been more focused on just...staying alive. It hasn't left a lot of time for plotting out the future.

Tyler looked to be about her age, if not a little older. Liz had led a life where she'd had a goal in mind from the start, knew exactly what she wanted to do with her life and how to get there. While she understood that most teenagers were ill-equipped to decide what they wanted to do with the rest of their lives at such a relatively young age, they at least had some inkling of what they wanted to do. Not having even that? Was really odd to her.

Especially with the considerable lack of not being an alien hybrid...

"I'm sorry."

Sorry, because what else does one say to news that (to her) sounds so sad?

The most Tyler had ever had for plans were his father's plans. Going to a good school, playing football, things like that. But his father is dead, and so his mother and he spent most of his senior year of high school was mostly spent on the run.

So all in all it makes sense he doesn't have plans.

When would he have had time to make them.

"It's fine. I have time to figure it out."

He is going to live forever, after all.

"On this boat, we've got nothing but time."

Might as well use it to think about something, right? Else they'll all go mad with cabin fever.

"Yeah, I'm beginning to see that."

Tyler has nothing but time anyway. It's the whole immortal deal and all.
