party post } { fool and king, ghoul and ghost

On the evening of the twenty-ninth, the ballroom on the main deck of the boat is decked out in lavish black and gold, thanks to Carol and Sophie, and the assistance of the very strong men they enlisted to help (thank you, boys). It's been a while since Carol has thrown a full out ball, and she liked the chance to stretch her event planning limbs again, even if those attending are mostly the ghost robots in their cater waiter wear.
A soft music is playing over the guests as they enter. As they pass through the threshold, there's a table with simple masks for them to choose from, in case they've forgotten their's. Once they pass through the main archway, they'll find their way to the large dance space where the ghost robot band is sitting, because live music is so much better than a recording, and they actually don't sound half-bad, all things considered. They also take requests, so feel free to tell them that song where you always wondered what it would sound like with a full orchestral backing. There's a large, expansive dance floor in the middle, and you're welcome to get out there and shake your groove thing whenever you see fit.
Tables with food line the far left wall of the room, as well as clusters of tables for the guests to sit when they so choose. There's also an open bar nestled into the far corner, for all your alcoholic needs. There are also plenty of dark corners to slip into, if you don't want anyone to see what you're doing, however the narration suggests watching those dark corners carefully. Rabbit holes lurk in pretty much every shadowed area of the ballroom and while they won't always drop you into a strange location of your choosing, there's a high chance they will. There's probably a high turnover of people arriving back in the ballroom, looking like they've gone five rounds with a bull.
Probably because they have.
The boat seem to want to promote this event as much as possible. While not everyone loves a good ball, some non-attenders may suddenly find themselves in attendance, completely dressed and no idea of how they got there. Trying to leave? Might not go so well either. For some, socializing isn't so much a choice as a punishment, but there are probably plenty of people to help you have a good time.
Or you could go on a trip to Narnia. One never really knows.
[OKAY BALL IS GO sorry I was late getting this up. Rabbit Holes are to be used at your discretion, but if you need suggestions or want me to randomize something for you, just shoot me a PM/private plurk/ping me (

elena can't help the way her smile widens as he pulls her in again, her gaze dropping to the space between them before it lifts back up to his face. there's something playful in the way she does it, and she falls into step easily with him. maybe too easily. ]
I know a thing or two. [ she angles her chin upward as though she is trying to make that comment as haughty as possible, but the amusement is too present for her to be successful. it isn't long before her expression breaks into something more genuine and fond. ] That wasn't an exaggeration, by the way. I come from a small town that had a lot of events like this one. The woman throwing it is also from that small town. [ that does say it all. ]
no subject
So you're saying you could probably show me a thing or two. [dancing wasn't really a part of ultra training after all. he mostly moves out of instinct and the music, the sound of the beat. something about that genuine and fond expression on her face has his smile widening further.] You know her? I'd say small world except... it really isn't. So is that true of all small towns or just yours? And was there always dancing at these events? [inquiring minds would like to know.]

[ she and tyler weren't exactly close back home, but she did grow close to him in chicago. he's not the same tyler, of course, but the affection is still there. ] Small towns have their own traditions. Ours prided itself on its Founder's Balls and charity events. They were big on its own history, which meant a lot of these things. I'll have you know you're looking at the runner-up for Miss Mystic Falls. [ she says it a bit mockingly, but it's all in good nature, a smile still on her face. ]
no subject
there's a smile at what she says, at the way she says it, and his smile widens a bit further as he dances with her, keeping her close, following the beat as best as he can.] I can honestly say I have no idea what that means, but congratulations. It sounds like a very different place to New York City, much smaller. [there is a slight pause since he knows where she lives now is far, far from that place. she lives in a place of gods and before that chicago but before that there was this home too. that's a lot of universe hopping to do.] ...do you miss it?
no subject
caroline deserved to win.
whatever her thoughts on it all were, they are brought to a halt at his question. it gives elena pause, and she tugs a deep breath in, even as they turn. ] I miss people from it I haven't seen in a while? [ she doesn't know if she misses the place itself, anymore. ] But it's been so long since I was there ... [ her expression turns thoughtful. ] In some ways, I don't think I've ever felt further away from it.
[ like that home belonged to someone else, in another lifetime. ]
no subject
it's okay with him.
it's okay, but then she goes on to answer, and john nods in understanding.] ...I think people are what make the place more than... the place itself. [it's not like the lair is home because of the fact it is an underground, abandoned subway.
it's home because of the family that he has inside of it.]
no subject
it isn't an expression that holds scrutiny. maybe more so understanding. it sounds like he's speaking from experience, and once elena finds it easy to relate and identify with others, even if their set of circumstances are widely different. ]
I think you may be right.
[ her statement is accompanied by a soft smile that's rueful in nature. homes aren't always houses. ]
no subject
home is where the heart is as they say.
he ducks his head slightly as he turns them to the beat of the music, tugging her in a little closer to him simultaneously.]
You are really good at this by the way.
[the dancing thing, he is impressed, taking hints from her along the way.]
no subject
he is tugging her in a bit closer. her heart's totally not fluttering because of this, nope. except where it is, a little, and her gaze drops to the space between them that has just been erased, before it lifts back up to meet his. her smile widens, even as a slight flush rises to her cheeks and tints them rose. ] I told you; I've had practice. But ... it's actually been a while since I went to a ball.
[ she slips her arm further around his shoulders to nestle herself closer now that she's been tugged, smile widening as she looks up at him. the first song has long since concluded, and this one's a little bit slower. of course, it's slower. ]
I'm glad you came. [ she'd been hoping to see him here, or just hopes in general. ]
no subject
[he smiles down at her fondly when she nestles closer, at the feeling of her arm slipping further around his shoulders. he breathes in and then out slowly.]
I'm really glad I came too. [it's said softly as a smile tugs across his face (it's warm, intense, filled with that genuine spark).] Honestly, I was really hoping I'd see you here.
no subject
elena keeps in place, pressed lightly against him, her hand still slipped into his as they turn. a smile curves wider on her mouth, before she tilts her head to look up at him. ] Why, were you looking for dance lessons? [ it's teasing, but there's curiosity there at the heart of the question. she doesn't presume to believe hoping she would be here is the reason he showed up, but knowing that it might've played a part in it -
well. yes. things. and stuff. ]
no subject
No, I didn't know you could dance until just now. That was just a happy bonus. [it's said with a fond, slow smirk as he looks over at her face, and then the smirk slips into a helplessly warm smile filled with that spark that he feels in his chest.] I knew I'd enjoy the party more if you were here.
[so it definitely did play a part in the reason that he showed up.
yes. things. and stuff. .-.]
shhhhhh
it's a quiet, almost imperceptible thing, but when she looks back up at him, there's a light in her eyes that wasn't there before. ] That makes two of us. [ she's been seeking his company more and more now, she notices, and she isn't afraid of him knowing it. the fact he feels the same way too means something, so he's glad that he did.
show up, that is.
growing quiet again, elena steps forward, placing her head on his the expanse of his shoulder as they move. it isn't until after the song concludes that elena looks back up at him again. ] ... Do you want to get out of here? [ for a little bit. the crowd is stuffy and there might be something she'd like to show him. ]
/never shhhes :x
like he was seeking her own.
he smiles at the question, lifting his eyebrows like it's the most wonderful idea he has heard tonight, and it probably is lbr.] I really, really do. [his hands tighten over her shoulder really quick before he teleports the both of them out of the ballroom. he doesn't know what she had in mind or what she'd like to show him, but... there's no better way to travel.
beats out on all that walking.] Anything you have in mind?
look!!!
[ elena laughs a little, dazed and wondrous, once they're teleported out of the ballroom. she's never afraid. ] I forget how easy that is when I'm with you. [ moving from one place to another. she hasn't forgotten the first time that he showed her his teleportation abilities. how he took them to the highest spot on the ship, and how it felt to be surrounded by it all. ]
Maybe. [ maybe she has something in mind. her smile is almost elusive as she reaches down to slip her heels off, and once she's barefoot, walking backwards with that smile still in place. ] But it's a secret.
[ this is a big deal, okay. she doesn't share her secret spot with just anyone. she leads him to the very front of the ship, to a spot that lets them see the stars blanketed above them perfectly. every now and then, a colored dolphin can be seen swimming near the surface of the water, before it dives back into the depths. ]
look right back!!!
Oh. It's a secret. [his smile widens as he looks at that almost elusive smile on her face, and he watches her as he takes her heels off and she starts to walk barefoot in front of him. john follows after her, slipping off his own shoes just... because he needs to.
he follows her to the front of the ship, and john leans against the railing as he walks up beside her, looking down at the water and the colored dolphin that swims near the surface before his gaze drifts up to the night sky too]
...wow. [the smile tugs further as he stares at it all, wondrously, at it all.] This is the secret?
http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m5ij6rUrNW1qdky3k.gif
elena leans against the railing beside him, smiling a bit at the sight of those dolphins, before she lifts her gaze up to the sky. ]
This is the secret. [ she nods firmly in affirmative. ] It's my favorite spot on the ship, especially at night. [ she sighs almost a bit wistfully. ] That's what I miss most when I'm in Teleios. I miss the stars.
[ john doesn't know yet how teleios seasons work, but ... he will someday. ]
gurrrrrrrl
he looks down at her, catching sight of her face, smiling softly as he looks at her.]
It's beautiful. I didn't realize there was this spot on the ship, but I can see why it's your favorite. [he looks over at her, tilting his head to the side curiously before he shakes his head.] You... can't see the stars in Teleios?
[he hasn't actually looked at the stars much at all in his life. even when he isn't in the lair, the lights in new york city make it impossible to see the stars.]
no subject
And the winter, I've heard, is too cold to be outside, so you don't get to see the stars, anyway.
[ she sighs a bit, because as much as she's met good people there - and reacquainted herself with former relationships she never thought she'd get the chance to - she isn't in any rush to leave. ]
no subject
So during the winter, it's dark always and too cold. Dangerous. It sounds dangerous either way.
[he smiles over at her a tiny bit at the sound of that sigh. there's some concern in his expression too as he meets her gaze.]
...what?
no subject
Nothing, it's just ...
[ she grows quiet as she looks out over the water again. ] I'm just wondering what happens when the Door opens again.
no subject
You don't want to go back.
[it's said softly. john doesn't really want to go back through either. he has a group of people he needs to look out for even if he walked away from them, even if he left and got drunk. he does have them to watch out for but--
but john doesn't really want to go back either.]
no subject
[ elena's voice is equally soft when she answers, her gaze drifting down to her hands. they rest over the railing, fingers resting on top of each other. it's only a moment after she answers a little bit more honestly: ] No. [ caroline is here. bonnie is here. damon and stefan are here. ethan is here.
john is here. ] But it doesn't matter what we want.
[ at least, not where the door is concerned. not until they figure it out. ]
no subject
there's a pause before he shakes his head.] It matters to me.
[it does.]
I don't want to go back either.
no subject
or maybe that's her own doing, too. she looks up at him, knowing it matters to him, like it matters to her. that's not what draws her attention the most, though. ] You don't? [ she would think out of everyone, john would want to go back the most. or maybe just need to. ]
