[As many of the modern wonders of the world that Elijah has taken the time to explore, cruise ships were not one of them. It isn't that he has anything the concept as a rule. He's sure that they can be quite entertaining for those looking for a vacation from their brief mortal lives, but as someone who's survived the trials and tribulations of sea travel in the pre-modern world, he's been inclined to pass on the opportunity.

The ship, however, elects to decide otherwise.

Elijah steps from one of the rooms of the Abbatioir onto the main deck of the ship and after raising his arm for a moment to allow his eyes to adjust, his gaze sweeps cleanly over the situation at hand. Given the amount of magic floating around New Orleans at the moment, particularly with the presence of Freya and looming arrival of Dahlia, the idea that a witch could generate a teleportation spell powerful enough to render him here is sadly not out of the question. Inconvenient and annoying, but not impossible.

For now, he simply needs to find the nearest person of authority and find out when they will be returning to land - compel them to do so if he must - and see if he can send word back to Klaus and Hayley of his ... predicament.

He's fairly certain there aren't many ways it could get worse.]

[Well, currently your sister is a cat, Elijah.

So that might count as worse.

Not that he'll know it's his sister. He'll just see a white cat circling around a pile of clothes and mewing loudly. He might notice amongst said pile of clothes there's a familiar ring.

Elijah, please figure out it's her.]

[At first he doesn't think much of it, beyond the fact that it seems odd that someone would bring their cat on a cruise ship. They do not tend to be creatures who are fond of water. It's the clothes that he finds much more interesting, making his way closer to see if he can assess who they belong to.

As he crouches down he extends one hand to the cat, inviting her to make of him what she will. With the other, he shuffles through the clothes and stops when he happens to come across a familiar ring. He plucks the daylight ring from the fray, before studying it curiously.]

Rebekah.

[catpire]

[She nudges his hand, purring a little as if to say yes. This is your sister. Your sister is a cat, Elijah. This is a thing that happens to her.

It's worse when it happens on the ship, but it's not like she has much control over it. She's just glad he found her ring, honestly. And that he's here. She paws at his hand as if it to say please pick me up.

It's the closest she can get to hugging right now.]

[He'll oblige her, if only to gain some kind of control over her but it's not the comfortable kitty way. It's mostly because it takes a moment for him to put two and two together - that the pile of clothes and the cat are connected - and he brings her up to eye level and his brow furrows in confusion.]

Rebekah?

[catpire]

[she nuzzles him because it's her brother and he's familiar and she hasn't seen him in over ninety years -- except for when he was briefly in Chicago. and that was over two years ago now.

she's missed him, to say the least.

she mewls in response.

yes. this is rebekah. this is her life.]

[He can't help but smile softly at that, slipping her daylight ring into his pocket before he takes one hand and strokes it gently over the top of her head.]

Well. This is ... inconvenient.

[It's rather difficult to talk to your sister when she doesn't have vocal chords. But thankfully, being vampires, there's a few tricks they can try. He's done this move before, slipping into a memory they both share, so it's all too easy to find their way back to the opera, where Rebekah has her actual face.]

I didn't realize that turning into a feline was among the list of abilities original vampires possessed.

[In her mind Rebekah is able to run to Elijah, wrapping her arms tightly around him. It's been too long since she last got to hug him.]

It's not an original vampire thing, I assure you.

[claimstonobility]

[He closes his eyes briefly as he sinks into the hold. While it is no substitute for actually hugging his sister, he will take it for now, placing one hand against the back of her head as he keeps her close.]

I see. Some kind of curse, perhaps?

[easily]

[Rebekah shakes her head.]

I was in another alternate world before this one and it...changed me.

[claimstonobility]

[His brow furrows.]

Into a cat.

[easily]

Yes. But only when I lose my temper usually.

[claimstonobility]

[There's the faintest flicker of a smile. While his sister's temper is one of her most notable features, he can imagine how turning into a cat must put a damper on her usual temper tantrums.]

How ... inconvenient.

[easily]

To say the least. Eventually it wears off.

[claimstonobility]

At least there's that.

[He pauses, taking a step closer to offer her a drink, even if it wasn't a real one.]

Tell me more about Chicago.

[easily]

There was a human version of Niklaus there, briefly. You were there for a short time as well. Mostly though, I was on my own.

[claimstonobility]

I'm sorry.

[Both that she was on her own and that he seemed to have lost them both. The idea of a human Niklaus baffles him as well, but that isn't really the important thing right now.]

I wouldn't have left you on your own if I could help it.

[easily]

I know you wouldn't have.

[The last time this Rebekah had seen Elijah back home had been when they fled New Orleans, because of her actions, she knows he wouldn't have left them if he could help it.]

[claimstonobility]

[He sighs softly, before glancing around.]

So how do you ... turn back into yourself? I think we both could use a drink.

[easily]

It usually just takes time

[And look what convenient timing!!! with a poof she'll becoming herself in real life a few minutes later.

and awkwardly naked in front of her brother.]

[claimstonobility]

[As though feeling the shift, he withdraws from her mind and moves to speak to her face to face instead. Without skipping a beat he's shedding his jacket and allowing her to cover herself with it, at least temporarily.]

Do you have a room or spare clothes here somewhere?

[easily]

[She pulls on the coat tightly around her body.]

My clothes should be nearby -- and my ring.

[claimstonobility]

[He nods, before gesturing her into the shadows of the boat and out of the sun. After that he uses his speed to his advantage to search quickly, before returning with clothing and ring in hand.]

This should be everything?

[easily]

[Rebekah slips on her ring first before using her speed to get dressed as quickly as possible.]

It would be.

[claimstonobility]

Good.

[He takes a breath.]

Then I would suggest that we are both in need of a drink and you can continue to ... catch me up.

[easily]

That sounds excellent. I know just the place I can take you for that drink.

[claimstonobility]

[He nods and gestures a hand ahead of them.]

Please, lead the way.

[easily]

[And with that she'll lead him to one of the bars on the ship where they can catch up further.]

[ matt is most certainly not the nearest person of authority, but at least he'll be a familiar face. the ex-quarterback has been sort of floathing day-to-day since he got stuck on this ship, still unsure of what he's supposed to be doing with his time here or what to make of the variance he keeps seeing in all the people he out to know pretty well. whether it's elena and caroline's experiences or rebekah's inability to remember him, it's throwing him for a loop.

but what's more troubling is elijah's sudden presence. the original may be by his lonesome, but matt fears klaus may be soon to follow. ]

If you're looking for Rebekah, I haven't seen her.

[ because "hi" seemed to personal for someone he never bothered to get personal with. ]

[His eyebrows climb for a moment, almost out of amusement more than anything else. At least Matt seems to know him well enough not to waste his time.]

I wasn't. But thank you, for the information.

[He pauses for a moment, glancing back out to the water before turning back to Matt.]

We encountered each other shortly after I arrived.

Did she know who you were?

[ an honest question/concern. there were a lot of things rebekah claimed she hadn't had the chance to experience. it occurs to him belatedly that of course she'd know who her brother was, but the question's already been asked. ]

She doesn't remember all of us. Says she never experienced it.

[ like him. she doesn't remember him and he hates that he actually cares about that. ]

[More amusement flashes through his features at the question, because yes, obviously Rebekah knows her brother, but he can at least understand Matt's concern.]

Yes, I noticed. Unfortunately the lack of recognition was on my part, as she was a cat at the time.

[He's not really sure how this happened, but it certainly made things interesting.]

[ at least someone does. matt's been at odds with himself for months over rebekah not remembering him. he went from being annoyed by the original sister's persistence to genuinely missing her determination to get in on his good side. it was like she wormed her way in without him realizing it, and now he was feeling the weight of her absence and a strange twinge of jealousy where her relationship with stefan was concerned.

he was always losing girls to the salvatore brothers, even the ones he was never really with. ]

A cat?

[ nobody told him about the animal shifting part of chicago. ]

Yes, apparently she fell through something called a rift, in which she was altered and given an addition ability to the ones she already had.

[He says it matter-of-factly, but it's likely he doesn't understand it any more than Matt will. There's also the large time discrepancy and the fact that his sister is still in her own body, but that isn't really the matter at hand.]

It's tied to her temper, so I'm sure she finds it quite tedious.

rose would agree with the narration, but her head is currently stuck in a book down by the pool deck, and she doesn't notice he's made his grand entrance. she is nothing close to a person of authority, but she's been here long enough she might have answers for you.

[He will wander closer, studying her for a moment, before speaking as softly and succinctly as he normally does.]
