There's a soft, slightly startled intake of breath--who wouldn't be startled by something so unexpected? But that's all it is, surprise. She studies his claws with open curiosity tinged with confused wonder. There's an explanation, she's sure.

But when she refocuses her gaze, lifts her eyes to hold and find his, when her lips part, it's not a request for the reasons how or why that comes out. It's something far more personal and honest, more genuine concern.
