Ethan has lost almost all awareness about where he is or the fact that other people could be around. He saw nothing but that flash of red and rage so when there's suddenly someone between them. It's enough to take him completely by surprise even if he still really, really wants to hurt Damon. There aren't words for how much he needs to do violence upon Damon right about now (and fucking always, this has been years of watching this asshole get away with--)

He falls back when Stefan shoves him, and a part of him that's beyond himself is already fighting to get back at Damon even as Stefan has hold of him. He just wants to hit him a few more fucking times, which is why he's already rushing back until he hears his name and he blinks... stares.
