Elena thinks it before she actually says it, the surprise taking over her features for a moment. It's one thing to know the blonde Original finds herself on the ship, and it's another to see her. Elena is grateful it's the same version of Rebekah she had encountered in Chicago. This is the Rebekah she is familiar with.
(She misses her brother, too.)
"It's good to see you too," Elena says dryly. Which is possibly codeword for yes, it was a bad evening.
Come join her for a drink, Beks. You know you want to.

(It's something they have in common, how much they love their brothers).
"I heard about the spectacle." She is staying with Stefan, after all.
And she'll make her way over, sitting next to Elena. She'll wave for a drink before she continues to speak.
"Men can be such idiots."

Shhh, no, Rebekah didn't almost make her smile. We have no idea what you are talking about.
The ghost tending at the bar floats off to fetch Rebekah's drink, Elena finally turning to her from the spot on her stool. "I'm starting to think it's a condition," she says in agreement, the right amount of irony and wryness to her response.
They'd know these things - they have cavorted with Salvatores, after all.

Everyone saw it!!!
"Oh, it's definitely a condition," Rebekah smiles a little, taking a sip of her drink now as she turns to properly face the other girl. "Considering how many centuries I've spent around my brothers I consider myself an expert."

This means tell no one, Rebekah.
There's a slight huff of laughter coming from Elena's direction before she orders another drink. They're full with the snarky quips today, aren't they? Never change, girls. "You probably have several degrees worth in psychology without realizing it."

Rebekah wrinkles her nose a little at that, snorting dismissively before downing the rest of her drink. "Please, talk about a field that's been overriden by male influence. I used to read some of Frued's papers -- he was as sex obsessed as any other man I've met."
Basically, some things never change.

She would think someone like Rebekah would enjoy marching into male-dominated territory and showing them a thing or two. Then again, it is pretty bleak to see not much has changed where that's concerned.
(Jenna was a psychology major. She thinks about Jenna, in between the times she isn't thinking of Jenna.)

"Touche, I think you're right."
She does love showing men how they're wrong, that's for sure. Living as long as Rebekah has would make anyone a feminist, really (except for perhaps her brothers, okay so maybe it doesn't work for everyone).

Their journey in Chicago was the most surreal experience Elena has ever had, but she doesn't forget it. Like she doesn't forget they were stuck together in a Jane Austen world where everything was unfamiliar and they could only ever trust each other - as much as they allow themselves to trust, anyhow.
"Where did you end up? Before here, I mean."

"Back in the twenties, strangely enough. But with Stefan."
no subject
"Was he okay?"

They may have been separated from their families -- possibly forever it had seemed like -- but they had one another. That's no small thing.

She says this almost dubiously. The rifts were supposed to have collapsed entirely, and this Red Door seems to be different, but most of them have been pulled to the same ship. Elena can't exactly call that a coincidence.

Rebekah has mixed feelings on it. She's glad Stefan gets his brother back, she is. But she misses her own. Even Nik, even knowing what he did to their mother she still misses him. A thousand years is a long time.
no subject
She has mixed feelings on it herself. She'd have never had Caroline and Bonnie with her otherwise, but Jeremy is nowhere to be found. There are trade-offs, impossible choices, and that Red Door none of them know how to control.

"So what caused that brawl anyway?" It's a seemingly innocent question but Rebekah has an inkling the answer is in front of her. Elena.
