[ she recognizes his style, he recognizes her handwriting. ]
Among other things.
[ what better way to get a feel for the people here than to see how they respond to something as simple and non-threatening as a drawing of an apple? method to his madness: scarily, most of the time. ]
Trying to get a feel for people's taste in the fine arts? [At least he's using his time productively. She may in fact be writing this from somewhere on the deck where she's currently sunbathing.
What? It's not like vacation time is something they normally get.]
[The problem with placing things in a public journal like that is that people might feel the need to contribute. After all, if he's going to make it public, he obviously wants other artists - and Alexander uses the term "artist" loosely - to add in their own twist.
Which is why he's going to pick up his own pencil and draw a tiny little gremlin, hiding in the shadow of the apple and waiting to strike.
[ no apologies needed; he's actually amused by this and adds in tiny little footprints detailing the apparent path this gremlin took to get to the apple. ]
If he could see the grin that Alexander was sporting right now, it would be amazing. it's so rare to meet someone who's a good sport about this stuff. He then takes over to the other side of the picture, sketching in a pear with it's own gremlin.
[ apparently it's a stand off over the right to rest on fine china. he adds in a small plate with a decorative, floral border between the two fruits. ]
[There's a pause as he taps his pencil against the side of the book. There has to be something on the plate, unless the plate is like ... plated in gold or magical or something.
Hmmmm.
He will add a slice of pie to the plate - when all else fails, always go with pie.]
Not bad. [ that's an understatement, really, but unfortunately wry amusement does not translate to the text all that well. maybe the tiny smile at the corner of angel's page will translate for her. she has absolutely no drawing skills - that would be jeremy's thing. ] Are you self-taught or do you take classes?
[ he has very nice handwriting. very nice. a little too nice, in fact. his handwriting looks more like a stylish font than anything close to how people are taught to move their pencils across the page. ]
I like it. [ her own handwriting is nowhere near stylish, but it's legible, at least. she doesn't spend as much time pouring her thoughts into a journal like she once used to, but she checks every day just in case more familiar names pop up - or damon's being an ass again. but the drawing sort of reminded her of - ] My brother was a little bit of both. [ there'd been classes here and there, but jeremy always expressed himself the way he wanted to, whatever he was told. ]
So are you so boring that you've memorized a dictionary or is sketching apples while you read from one your form of entertainment? Feeling any less bored now?

I guess that's one way to keep busy on the ship until the sun goes down, huh?
