[party post] come sail away with me

You've come through a door, and you are on a boat. Specifically, you're on a cruise ship in the middle of some giant body of water. You've come through the door behind you which is attached to nothing and may now be locked. It's relatively empty as giant as it appears to be. The only other passengers that are here appear to also have come through the door for the most part and it is not nearly enough to fill up this entire cruise ship.

Also, who knows who the hell is driving this thing since all of the employees appear to be either ghosts or holograms...

Is this your first time here or your hundredth time here? Do you want a drink or a dip in the pool? Is it day or night? Do you stumble on your room or some other situation either fun or painful within its many rooms, shops, and facilities? Do you run into someone you know or a complete stranger?

The possibilities are unlimited!

"I have, yeah. My sister is actually a witch, if you can believe it."

There's no pointy hat and evil laughter, but there is a lot of magic. It's been in his life for as long as he can remember, even if he's never been able to do it himself. Part of him used to be disappointed in that, but he learned that magic does come with its own obligations and consequences.

He isn't sure if he would be strong enough to bear them.

Rafe gives her a bit of a salute, staying in place and leaning against one of the walls, giving Clementine time to clean herself up. Once she comes back, he makes sure that she's okay, and that really was someone else's blood, before he pushes himself off of the wall. "Awesome! Any place you wanna start with?"

The tricorder falls from her hands and bounces across the deck, coming to a stop at the base of a potted plant. "No, no, that was my fault," she counters, stepping around Rebekah to retrieve the device. There's more technological advancements in a single circuit than there is on this entire ship. She isn't about to let it out of her sight.

"I haven't yet figured out my way around the place. The unwanted trip didn't exactly come with a map."

Cooped up is something Kathryn's used to. She's been contained within the walls of her ship for the past three and a half years. What's one box to another? Except this box isn't the one she captains, isn't the one she belongs on. Voyager's her constant, and she's dedicated the rest of her life to ensuring that her crew gets home. She can't exactly do that when she's standing on a different, far more archaic vessel.

"Of course." These things were never so straightforward. Or easy. Difficult is something she's accustomed to, as well. "I have an unusual question, one you might not be able to answer, but I have to ask it all the same. What year is it?"

Late 20th Century, if she had to wager a guess, but she was a quantum cosmologist not a historian.

Kathryn's more than happy to take a look at the picture, frowning when she realizes that the David this woman had been calling for was a child. She didn't have any children of her own (and likely never would with the way her life was going), and couldn't possibly imagine what it was like to not know where your child was. That spike of anxiety and fear that went coursing through your being, a unique brand to the situation and the ties that bound those involved. It likely paled in comparison to the panic she felt when one of her crew went missing or comm lines went down between the ship and away teams.

Or being however far away she was from them now.

"I'm sorry, but I haven't seen him. David, is it? I'd be happy to help you look for him."

"Already one step ahead of you, my friend."

Damon isn't a friend. He's a veritable stranger, but Nikola is one step ahead of the other, unbeknownst to him, vampire. He's got a glass of chardonnay in one hand, a bottle of it in the other. He's far too civilized to demean himself by drinking straight out of the bottle. Even at his worst, he always finds a worthy, pristine glass to pour it into. The oenophile in him won't allow for anything less.

"The bar's that-a-way, in case you were wondering." With the bottle, he gestures back in the direction in whence way he came.

You are a very smart man, Peter Parker.

Mary Jane seems pleased he acknowledges this, and will be extra pleased if he keeps from ever going splat in any of his Spidey excursions. She thinks about that more than she cares to admit, how often Peter puts himself in danger and how many close calls he must have that he never tells her about so she won't worry, but it never stops her from loving him and wanting to be with him.

Those days of lacking courage and the strength of knowing what she wants are long over.

Also, Chicago totally prepared them for situations like this.

Mary Jane bump-checks his hip with hers when he suggests getting dressed. "You read my mind, tiger. I'll be waiting right here," she says, a grin on her face that's meant to convey exploring will be worth his while.

"Famous last words."

Damon needing a drink isn't unheard of. Elena's surrounded by functioning alcoholic vampires, and she understands that for a lot of them, it helps to take the edge off. She can't decide if that's actually true, or something that works as some kind of placebo effect. Either way, the Boarding House boasts some of the more impressive collections she has ever seen, and undoubtedly Damon is pissed he has been taken away from that. Not that Elena is thinking of the Boarding House.

She's thinking of her Damon and the alcohol at the No Name Club.

"This is hardly the strangest thing that has ever happened to us," she adds practically. There was that time they got trapped in a sewer with ewoks.

And the carpet. There was also a magic carpet.

"They're sometimes used synonymously. Back where I'm from, there are tears in the universe, and people fall through those holes. There isn't really a reason why for them. They exist, and there's no finding sense in the senseless. I realize that's hardly a comforting answer. I've tried making sense of it myself for a really long time now."

But there aren't really any satisfying ones.

Elena squeezes his hand lightly once he's reached for her hand and locked their fingers together. A quiet sort of smile touches on her lips as she looks at him, listens to what he says. It strikes her, then. Not because he is saying something she hasn't heard before, but because of what he has done for her.

"It's weird," she says after a moment, a small laugh, and the slight ducking of her head. The neon-colored dolphins remain swimming to the surface. Some of them jump up into the air before they dive back into the water. "You've always said I help you stand still when you're ... the person that helped me move forward," she adds, looking back over at him after a moment. Her smile turns bittersweet, but genuine, because this Ethan -- he may not realize what a big deal that is, either.

"And I don't just mean keep going, I've always done that, I've always had to." Without ever letting herself look back, letting herself stay in bed for that one second longer because she knew if she did, she wouldn't get out of it. "I mean moving on, and looking forward, and reminding me what it is to really feel alive."

She's felt so alive with him.

"No. They didn't give any of us a map -- I suppose that would be too easy."

But this isn't Rebekah's first strange world hopping adventure -- so it's not as jarring as it could be. Still, she's no more accustomed to getting around the ship than the other woman was, honestly.

He chuckles. It's charming, how direct her questions are.

"No, love. The drink is just recreation. My life's a bit full of nonsense like this. Well--this, this ship, it's new and a bit different from the rest. But overall, weird shit happens to me a lot, yeah?"

"Depends."

Everything always depends with her. Circumstances being what they are, he could be in the spandex for any number of reasons, but when it comes to Lois Lane she mocks out of love, more than anything else.

"Why?"

[personal profile] flack 2014-03-09 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, unintentional jokes are Flack's favorite things and if the kid is laughing then she can't be too traumatized. So that's a plus, probably? Right? Anyway. He also laughs a bit himself at the last question, because no. That's not really what he meant.

"I just meant that I've done this kind of thing before - landing somewhere that isn't what I expected."

The last time was Chicago and that was ... a whole other world. "And thanks." It's a good helmet.

"Kidnapped." Which is a bit easier than saying that he probably fell through a rift, when she doesn't seem to know what those are. All the same, it's usually better to ease someone in to that kind of thing. "Still learning my way around."

HEY, CAROLINE IS NOT COMPLAINING.

In fact, she looks super pleased with the situation. She may wish they were a little more fleshy, but she can take in the incredibly sexy abs from here just fine. She leans back in her chair with her drink, a wide grin on her face.

"Now we're talking!"

"A few months?" she says with a bit of a shrug. It's not like they keep calendars, but given the fact that she has been there longer than most, she's tried to keep track of the days if she can. "Give or take. It can be a little hard to tell."

"Point." Mystic Falls was a great big giant cluster of crazy on the best of days, and there are still moments she regrets not staying away when Bill came back to get her, but at the same time, she has a feeling that things wouldn't have ended any other way. "But that doesn't mean this place is without it's problems. Things can ... get weird."

They probably do. Audrey can't help but side eye that particular comment about keeping the suit clean, because why, but she lets it go for now. There are more pressing matters at hand - at least as far as she is concerned.

"Do you happen to know where I might find a change of clothes? Or a washing machine?" Or possibly both, in that order?

"Sounds like a plan. I was gonna do the same but my stomach had other ideas. I've never been on a ship before!" She manages a wan but rueful smile. "Hell of a time to find out you get seasick."

She takes a deep breath and makes an inward prayer that her current state of not-hurling holds out for a while longer. "I'm Rachel, by the way."

Alek has often felt the same, except then he was lied to about something life-altering. His brothers lied to him about their own family history and it led to it all blowing up in their faces.

There's a slight smile in response. It's not at Liz's expense. More so, it's at the irony of her statement. Most do end up going home. Alek will not be one of those people. There is nothing to go back home to. The end of the world made sure of that. The city he loved and once called home was burned to ashes until nothign was left of it. "I'm won't ask you to calm down," he says, though not unkindly. "I find that patronizing, and I actually think letting yourself go every now and then can be pretty cathartic."

He may have done this when he first showed up, once he found a room that had a sandbag with his name on it. It may be why he is so calm at the moment. Alek isn't known for many things but his rage issues are sometimes one of them. He's not the best of influences, Liz. The narration apologizes for it.

"And back where I'm from, they were called Rifts, not portals, but I think they end up being the same thing. Wormholes that take you away from where you're from. Whether it's science or magic or both, I wouldn't be able to tell you."

Ethan smirks lightly, sympathetically at her reaction as he nods.

"That's about it in a nutshell. Also, the rooms and stores can change from what I've seen so that's an adventure in itself," he says, shaking his head, because he doesn't-- that might be one of the more unsettling things about this place. It's always changing but never changes at the same time.

The question makes him pause, because. Well. "Nothing really, make do where I can with temporary work, heavy lifting," Logan answers, which he knows sounds strange as soon as he throws it out there, but it's also the truth. "Been wanderin' a long time. I've done a lot of jobs over the years. Some of 'em I'm not too proud of."

But he's done plenty. Been a soldier, an experiment, a secret group in the government, an assassin, someone that won fights in bars for cash, reluctant member of the X-men, a... teacher (that didn't last very long).

Safety is a feeling and a state of being that one can have and feel for such a long time without even realizing it or appreciating it or understanding how important it is. Then one day something (an event, a death, a threat) shatters it, and it's hard to remember what it used to be like to feel safe. He doesn't really remember it anymore.

It's not even his own safety that he is concerned about. It's the people around him. They're the ones that get hurt, that get killed.

Peter always survives somehow, always comes crawling out of the wreckage.

He smiles softly at the science talk, setting the tool to the side as he nods. "No sign at all that I have seen, and I started to pay close attention to it. They just appear, wondering how they got here and why and where here is. Unless they've been here before like I have then they wonder how long it'll be until the door unlocks again." Until they can go home.
